Mannheim Month of the Military Child Carnival

Mannheim continued its monthlong celebration of the Military Child with a CYSS Carnival April 24. Saturday afternoon marked a warm spring day at the Youth Center on Benjamin Franklin Village with more than 200 children in attendance. Kids participated in potato sack races, played endless rounds of “lucky duck”, and joined their parents in horseshoe throwing contests. Children earned tickets for participating, collecting them by the dozens so they could exchange them for prizes. The pie throwing contest and dunk tank were particularly popular and kids had fun challenging eachother! As nearby baseball games finished, the food venues were busy serving popcorn, candy apples and hotdogs and hamburgers. Indoor activities allowed children of all ages to try out some of the Mannheim Edge offerings such as rockband and spin classes. The Carnival event was one of many offered in April to celebrate the Month of the Military Child, and according to one child covered in whipped cream, “It was the best day ever!” (USAG Mannheim)
