Pennsylvania Hiking Trails: A Guide to Hiking Opportunities in the Keystone State

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is blessed with more than three thousand miles of hiking trails. These are spread over a varied terrain, rich in natural and historical resources. Most of these trails are on public lands and are a result of an extraordinary cooperative effort between ordinary citizens who enjoy hiking in the out-of-doors and the various governmental agencies with responsibility for management of these lands. Much of the land used by the hiking trails discussed in this book is managed by the Bureau of Forestry and the Bureau of State Parks of Pennsylvania's Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, or the Pennsylvania Game Commission, an independent state agency. In general, the hiking opportunities contained in this book will help to make them more accessible to the interested hiker. Contents include: Region 1- Southeast, Region 2 - South Ridge and Valley, Region 3 - North Ridge and Valley, Region 4 - Laurel Highlands, Region 5 - Southwest, Region 6 - Northwest-Allegheny National Forest, Region 7 - Northcentral Highlands, Region 8 - Northeast Highlands, Region 9 - Pocono Highlands.
